In my autism, I can get overwhelmed by an influx of senses all at once: sudden loud noises, bright lights, rough textures can affect me and make me feel very uncomfortable.

I wanted to create this photo to remind myself that it’s ok if the light is blinding or the sounds are deafening. I can find ways to get through these experiences—talking about it definitely helps.

How do we emerge from our day-to-day shadows? Are we promised a light on the horizon, ready for us to pursue? I choose to follow this light; to believe in its capabilities.

Created in celebration of Diwali, in my garage with old branches and a phone torch.
